The Beer Town

Baltimore used to be a two beer town not long ago.

It was the golden age of local brewing, and National and Gunther Brewing Companies were battling each other for control of the city’s pint glasses and fridge space. It was a time when the beer you drank determined the type of person you were. When both of Baltimore’s original breweries were bought by larger conglomerates in the 1970s, the city’s beer culture drifted into a brewing lull. But both technological advances in the way we brew beer and a shift in culture to a more retro-inspired personality in terms of beer have once again made Baltimore into a brewing hot spot. These are the stories of Baltimore’s brewing culture.
